Mountain Biking Camp – Lafayette
First United Methodist Church of Lafayette, 1255 Centaur Village Dr, Lafayette, CO 80026
About
Mountain Biking Camp – Lafayette focuses on mountain biking and trail riding, with campers riding on rolling single and double track terrain and on narrow, winding trails. Campers practice specific biking skills such as bunny hops, track stands, braking, shifting, and basic bike commands while descending and ascending trail sections. The program also includes learning bicycle maintenance basics, safety checking bikes, solving gear problems, changing flat tires, learning to properly fit a helmet and bike, and learning good trail etiquette.
• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off - Starting at 8 AM $35; After Care - Pick up 3-5:30PM $105; Bike Rental $50; Avid4 Merch - Delivery at Camp Prices Vary (Tax Incl.)
Each one-week session runs Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, with extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders. Campers are strongly encouraged to use their own tuned bikes that fit well and are appropriate for dirt trails, including hand brakes, gears, and wider tires, and bike rental is available for those who need it. In order to register, campers must be able to bike confidently without training wheels on a dirt surface, and campers who do not meet this minimum skill requirement may be moved to a different program if space is available or removed from the group and offered a credit.
Instructors are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids, are all 18 and older, and have serious safety and skills training. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that at Avid4 Adventure kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization is a Certified B Corp, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps.
Avid4 Adventure notes that campers experience the thrill of learning mountain biking on the area’s best parks and trails, with adventures carefully customized so campers progress as their comfort and skill level grow. The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free. The organization provides transportation to and from recreation areas, access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, and professional-caliber equipment, and transports campers to authentic local recreation areas they can continue to explore. Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in empowering kids from PreK–12, hires committed and experienced instructors, runs highly acclaimed summer camps, teaches campers solid skills including judgment and problem-solving, and that its programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. It also states that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe without “packing them in bubble wrap,” and that it gives kids the knowledge and confidence to take calculated, well-communicated risks.
Parent testimonials describe this as a favorite camp where one child progressed from training wheels to riding without them, where staff are described as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion, and where kids are active every day and continue talking about camp and wanting to return.
