Avid4 Adventure

Avid4 Adventure offers a weeklong expedition where campers spend their days rock climbing and bouldering and their nights camping in basecamp tents. The program also includes white water rafting on class I–III rapids, paddling, biking and mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking. Campers get familiar with climbing equipment such as carabiners, stoppers, camalots, and belay devices, and they practice anchor setup, traditional gear placement, identifying natural anchors, setting up new anchors, and advancing their knot knowledge.

In this program, campers are in a group of no more than 13 with up to three experienced staff members. Avid4 Adventure describes its instructors as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids, and states that all instructors are 18 and older with serious safety and skills training, including adventurers and educators. Campers break into small climbing teams, try out different roles within their team, and explore a range of Staunton State Park climbing routes, including knobs, domes, and cliffs. The program includes transportation to and from recreation areas and access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids. Campers sleep in basecamp tents without showers or running water, use portable or pit toilets without flush capabilities, and use filtered water brought to the site for drinking, hand washing, and food preparation. The program lists a Difficulty Rating of 2 – Single Sport Specialty and a Wilderness Rating of 1 – Improved Site Camping, and it offers an Avid4 Adventure Guarantee that promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, increased confidence, and a customer experience that exceeds expectations, with the next Avid4 Adventure camp free if these promises are not met.

Avid4 Adventure states that it believes in the transformative power of the outdoors and that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization offers summer camps, overnight camps, school programs, and events, and describes these as launching campers into a lifetime of empowering outdoor adventure.
