About
MacKinnon Dance Institute offers Ballet Tap Combo Class, Princess Ballet, Hip-Hop Tap Combo Class, Ballet I, Ballet II and III, Ballet IV and V, Pointe and Pre-Pointe, Lyrical, Jazz, Hip Hop I, Hip Hop II, and Tap. The classes include tap, ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, barre work, center floor work, stretching, strengthening, vocabulary, musicality, balance, coordination, and choreography.
Programs
- Ballet Tap Combo Class — Half hour of tap and half hour of ballet. Focuses on engaging students while learning to translate music to movement.
- Princess Ballet — Focuses on ballet technique, coordination, dance concepts and terminology, vocabulary, alignment, proper execution of movement, memorization, and independence.
- Hip-Hop Tap Combo Class — Half hour of tap and half hour of hip hop. Focuses on coordination, rhythm, and beginning dance skills.
- Ballet I — First introduction to formal ballet class structure. Emphasizes stretching, strengthening, barre work, vocabulary, French terminology, musicality, balance, coordination, and center floor work.
- Ballet II and III — Continues stretching, strengthening, barre work, vocabulary, French terminology, musicality, balance, coordination, and center work.
- Ballet IV and V — Minimum 2-3 years of ballet training. Instructor placement only. Focuses on more complex combinations, fluidity of movement, balance, and combinations.
- Pointe and Pre-Pointe
- Lyrical — Uses ballet, modern, and jazz techniques to express song lyrics. Develops strength and flexibility. Must be enrolled in ballet.
- Jazz — Combines classical ballet and modern dance with popular dance forms. Emphasizes energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style.
- Hip Hop I — Introduces basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement. No dance experience is required.
- Hip Hop II — Builds on hip hop vocabulary and style with more advanced choreography and break dancing movement.
- Tap — Emphasizes rhythm and movement through tap dance. See instructor for appropriate level.

About the provider
MacKinnon Dance Institute says it serves Loveland and surrounding Northern Colorado communities. Its mission is to provide quality dance education to those communities, give students of all ages the skills they need to enjoy dance for a lifetime, and make dance accessible for everyone. The program also states that it is contributing to community outreach.
Classes are offered for all ages and levels of experience. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes are offered for children, teens, and adults. Class sizes are limited to maximize individual attention and learning. Teen/Adult Open is specifically designed for dancers ages 18 and over and is conducted in a comfortable, non-intimidating environment.
