About

PGC Basketball – Point Guard Prep includes short interactive classroom and video sessions along with action-packed gym sessions. Players work on ball control, shooting, passing, vision, and movement, and they also focus on improving athleticism, balance, and coordination. The program covers how to make layups against contact, how to see the floor and find open teammates, how to develop an effortless shooting stroke, how to “Think the Game” instead of just playing it, and how to be a leader instead of a follower.

• Ages: 9–14 years old
• Schedule: 5 days, 9:00am–4:00pm
• Price: Single Camp - Player: Register with a $295 deposit - daily pick-up and drop-off required. $695.

The camp runs from 9:00am–4:00pm with a 30-minute lunch break each day, and check-in on the first day is from 8:25am–8:50am. On the final day, camp ends at 2:00pm, and parents are invited to come at 1:30pm for the closing wrap-up. Daily pick-up and drop-off are required, and players either bring a bag lunch or have a lunch dropped off.

PGC Basketball reports that most day camps are limited to no more than 64 players, and that typical camps are 2–3 times this size, but PGC does not take more players than the camp director can know by name. PGC offers a 2-Camp Day Camp Pass and a 3-course curriculum that includes Playmaker College, Scoring College, and Point Guard College, and offers over 200 camps across North America in the summer and fall for players from 4th grade to college and the pros. The organization states two guarantees: The PGC Promise, which offers a 100% refund if a child attends the entire camp and does not significantly improve in at least one of basketball IQ, mindset, leadership, or playmaking, and the “Dicky D. Downright Crazy Guarantee,” which offers a full tuition refund plus an additional $500 cash if a child attends an entire PGC session and parents are not completely satisfied with the basketball experience.

PGC Basketball states that its instructors are typically PGC grads who have played college basketball and coach high school or college basketball. The leadership team includes PGC Founder Dick Devenzio (Dicky D.) and PGC President Mano Watsa. PGC Basketball reports that for over 34 years, it has been the worldwide leader in teaching players how to think the game, be a leader, and run the show, and that its mission is “To Inspire and Equip Every Player & Coach Everywhere.” Over the past decade, PGC reports providing more than $2.5 million in financial assistance to players and contributing to initiatives locally and globally.

Parent and player testimonials describe the camp as powerful, purposeful, and efficient, and note that parents were impressed with the level of teaching and the way coaches learned every child’s name and treated kids individually. Several testimonials mention players feeling “one thousand times better,” “re-invigorated,” and “blown away” by the teaching, and describe the week as a “dream basketball week” and “so much fun and such a great experience.” Testimonials also mention life and leadership tools as part of the basketball content, peer interaction with staff, and players looking forward to returning or putting what they learned into practice.
