About
UD Lab School Summer Programs include All About Adventure and I Can Be Mindful WITH Nature, with activities such as Fishing and Wildlife, nature walks, simple fishing concepts, crafts, and games. Children take part in Architecture and Design by designing buildings, bridges, and shelters, and in Parks and Paths with outdoor exploration, scavenger hunts, map-making, movement games, and nature-based art. Additional themes include Hunters and Gatherers with foraging, harvesting berries, making homemade jam and biscuits, and picking strawberries, as well as I Can Be Mindful WITH Nature, which uses mindful practices, songs, stories, and movement while observing, encountering, wondering, creating, and caring for the natural world.

Since 1934, the Lab School has supported University of Delaware academic programs and, in celebration of its 90th anniversary, will host the In Bloom conference in partnership with Antioch University. The Lab School Director is Dorit Radnai-Griffin, and Master Teachers enact the practices taught to the undergraduate majors. The Lab School states a three-part mission that includes supporting academic programs that prepare future professionals through high-quality, closely mentored clinical experiences and teaching; serving as a leader in inclusive early education while acting as a demonstration site for area professionals; and researching, developing, assessing, and sharing curriculum and teaching approaches for young children, their families, and early childhood professionals. The Lab School is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is a member of the National Coalition of Campus Children’s Centers and the Natural Start Alliance. It serves children, families, and the community, has connections with UD Cooperative Extension through gifted gardens, and is part of the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences within the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware. One parent describes the Lab School as “beyond anything I could have ever hoped for my children” and notes the teaching teams’ commitment to mindfulness, connecting children to nature, child-led interactions and discovery, and developing a sense of community among families.
