About
Athens Theatre Youth Academy offers week long Summer camps, monthly workshops, and classes. This division uses theater and theatrical techniques to advance the education of children. The Athens Theatre Youth Academy launched an After School Program in 2019.

The Athens Theatre is a community theater and has been DeLand’s theater since 1922. The Athens Theatre serves young people each year with a wide selection of week long Summer camps and monthly workshops and is supported by many volunteers whose time and energy help it serve patrons and all of Central Florida. The Youth Academy Director, Angelyn Rhode, began her teaching career in 2001 at First Stage Theatre Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and has worked with Walt Disney World Entertainment, Disney’s Youth Education Series, Lochwood Academy for the Performing Arts, Orlando Shakes, Hagerty High School, Breakthrough Theatre of Winter Park, and Wekiva River Players, and has mainstage music director credits including Annie, The Lion King Jr., and Aladdin Jr. Additional staff credentials include degrees and training in vocal music, musical theatre performance, child development, theatre arts, dance, and musical theatre from institutions such as Oakland University, the University of Central Florida, the University of La Verne, the Alvin Ailey Dance Conservatory in Jacksonville, and Jacksonville University, along with experience teaching dancers ages 3–18 and working as an elementary music educator, private vocal coach, and licensed Estill Certified Voice Instructor.
