Florida Aikikai is described as having a huge mat, a large open space, and a clean, well-organized facility, with space and tatami that are described as perfect and that help the training flow. The dojo is led by chief instructors Peter Bernath Sensei and Penny Bernath Sensei, and additional instructors include Helen Sensei, Keith Sensei, Darius Sensei, Marisa Sensei, and Julia Sensei. The mission of Florida Aikikai is to study Aikido for self-defense and personal development through the integration of mind, body, and spirit, with training that focuses on remaining centered and connected through times of conflict and stress and on calming the mind, finding balance, and directing energy mindfully. Florida Aikikai is described as the most established Aikido dojo in the southeastern United States with the most direct lineage to Hombu and O Sensei, and as a place where having two Shihans in a single school, with both male and female perspectives at a Shihan level, is a rare opportunity.
Parents and students describe Florida Aikikai as one of the best dojos they have trained at, with high quality instruction and training under Shihan Peter Bernath and Shihan Penny Bernath. Several parents mention that their children have studied there for years, attended summer and winter camps, and earned stripes and belts, including a special needs daughter who has spent three summers at Florida Aikikai. Testimonials describe instructors as kind, patient, and loving toward children, and mention that kids enjoy a mix of martial arts, games, and arts and crafts at camp. Families describe the dojo as family friendly, with people of all ages and skill levels training together, and some note that senior students are friendly and welcoming and that the dojo feels like a family-like atmosphere.
