About
UF RecSports Youth Programs – RecSplorers & Esports Camps includes activities such as sports, group fitness classes, outdoor recreation, boating, sailing a Hobie Cat Wave, lawn games, and an aerial adventure course called The Compass Course. Some sessions also include making s’mores as part of the Youth Aerial Adventures & S’mores program.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weekly camp sessions generally run between about 7:30–7:45am and 3:00pm on listed dates, with some 3-day options, and Afternoon Adventure or Extended Day choices available until 5:15pm; Esports Camp runs 7:45am–12:00pm during a single July week; Family Day and Youth Aerial Adventures & S’mores are offered in single-day blocks.
• Price: Daily drop-in rate is $85 per day, with example weekly camp prices ranging from $200–$360 for Non-Member Camp and $180–$315 for RecSports Member Camp, plus additional fees for Afternoon Adventure or Extended/Adventure options; Family Day: Sailing 101 costs $45 per person; Youth Aerial Adventures & S’mores ranges from $5–$35 per person; a $75 non-refundable deposit is required per camp week, and late pickup fees apply after closing times.
Youth Programs staff members are selected through a competitive application process that includes group interviews and a thorough background check. Once selected, staff are trained in their camp responsibilities and are required to have up-to-date first-aid and CPR certifications, and all counselors are University of Florida students. The mission of UF RecSports Youth Programs is to enhance the UF community by encouraging the development of the whole person, and to inspire self-discovery and a sense of belonging through a wide variety of recreational experiences. Camps explore aspects of wellness including physical, intellectual, social, and emotional elements, and counselors are University of Florida students who have a desire to share their appreciation for recreation and learning with youth in the community.
Youth Aerial Adventures & S’mores uses The Compass Course aerial adventure course and a s’mores area, with participant requirements that include a minimum age of 6 years, a minimum waist size of 16 inches, a minimum height of 48 inches, and a maximum weight of 260 pounds or a 55-inch waist size. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult for this program, and minors must be able to participate independently if their adult remains on the ground. For Family Day: Sailing 101, participants must pass a short written test and show skills on the water to check out a Hobie Cat Wave for the day. All events are non-refundable and non-transferable, and drop-in participation is dependent on current enrollment and available space.
