About

After-school Tutoring and Summer Enrichment is one of Guadalupe Center’s three educational programs, alongside Early Childhood Education and Tutor Corps. In this program, 100% of at-risk students in K–2nd grade make academic gains. The program is part of a broader effort that reaches more than 2,000 students per year through these three programs.

• Ages: 5–8 years old

Guadalupe Center’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty through education, and it is reaching more than 2,000 students per year with its three educational programs. The organization mobilizes donors, staff, and volunteers toward this mission and continues to strengthen partnerships across Immokalee. Through its Resource Hub, students and families have dependable access to food, household and personal essentials, and critical support systems. The leadership team includes Dawn Montecalvo, President & CEO.

Adriana Antonio-Lopez, a Guadalupe Center educator, is the 2025 Florida Association for the Education of Young Children Infant–Toddler Teacher of the Year. She describes her work by saying, “I greet every child and family with warmth and respect, honoring their language, culture, and story. I listen closely, adapt my teaching to their needs, and celebrate their milestones both big and small. I'm not just teaching - I'm investing in a community that has shaped my family and my purpose.”

A 2nd grade student in the After-school Tutoring Program, Samantha, says, “It’s cool. They (the tutors) help me with my homework and then we play learning games. I just like them to be around because that makes me comfortable. I want to thank them every day!” Tutor Corps student Reginal Petit Homme says the Tutor Corps experience has shown that success is achievable regardless of challenges and that having people to guide him through college and tutor younger students has influenced his outlook. Tutor Corps alumnus Mark Trejo notes that, as a Blankley Scholar and Arcadia University graduate, he has had the opportunity to pursue the career his father once wanted, and he recognizes that people have invested in his future.
