• Ages: 1–14 years old
Discovery was founded in 1990. Discovery is a diverse and inclusive independent day school that educates students aged 18 months to 14 years in a program that blends the Montessori curriculum with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program framework. Multi-age classes and a low student to teacher ratio are part of the school structure, and differentiation occurs for students at every level, allowing movement ahead in areas of mastery and extra work in areas of emerging mastery. The school’s mission statement is: “We open our minds and hearts so we can discover the knowledge and ideals to build a better world.” The school strives to ensure that each child's culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure are recognized and valued in the program, and faculty and staff work to foster a peaceful and productive work environment for students.
The faculty is made up of a combination of certified lead teachers, associate teachers, and classroom guides. Discovery is accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools, the American Montessori Society, and is an International Baccalaureate World School. Discovery is a qualified tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code. A Board of Trustees governs the strategic direction of the school, and the day-to-day operations are conducted under the direction of the Head of School.
