About

Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County After-School Programs include homework help, tutoring, music and arts enrichment, physical activities and sports, and meals and healthy snacks. This site is a Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center.

The organization’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible people. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Polk County trace their history to 1939, when construction began on what they describe as a bridge to the future for thousands of children from Polk County. The Club states that its impact extends to the families and communities of the children it serves by increasing graduation rates, lowering teen pregnancy and crime rates, and increasing volunteerism. The Club offers academic, nutritional, and civic programs that serve children at different stages of development, and its after-school programs and nutritional dinners enable parents to work, knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing environment. The program also states that it keeps kids safe and out of trouble through pathways to success and provides parents with peace of mind knowing that their children are safe and supervised.
