Withdrawals due to illness or accident require written physician verification.
All adult program instructors are US Sailing certified. The CGSC Instructional Center is a US Sailing Accredited School and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is part of Coconut Grove Sailing Club. Coconut Grove Sailing Club was founded in 1946 by a small group of Miami sailors with a commitment to community service, including organizing regattas that brought the community together on the water. The organization states that, as a nonprofit dedicated to championing the sport of sailing, it is committed to advancing the sport and expanding its accessibility by delivering standards-based instruction at every level, welcoming new sailors, preserving Coconut Grove’s sailing tradition, and delivering instruction that meets national standards for safety, instruction, and seamanship.
The leadership team includes Rosa Lamela as Director of Programs and Development, Maru Urban as Director of Sailing Performance, Priska Urban as President, William Sancho and Olivier de Lavalette as Vice Presidents, Doreen Fischer as Secretary Director, John Sauvigne as Treasurer Director, and Lauren Simpson as General Manager. Campers are expected to bring a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket, a long-sleeved dry-fast performance shirt, swim trunks or shorts and a bathing suit, closed-toed water shoes or sailing booties (strongly recommended), hats and sunglasses, sunscreen, lunch and/or snacks, a reusable water bottle, and a change of clothes and a towel, with all personal items labeled and valuable or sentimental items strongly discouraged.
