About

Kidz XL offers an after-school program and summer camp that include homework help, literacy development, physical fitness, character-building activities, social skills development, and sports and physical fitness activities. Children spend time learning the skills of a sport and playing that sport, reading out loud, and taking part in a “Power Hour” talk as part of the program’s daily activities.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: After-school program starts the first day of the first week of Miami-Dade Public Schools; summer camp starts the week immediately following the last day of Miami-Dade Public Schools and runs for 8 to 9 weeks, serving up to 150 students a day
• Price: The after-school program is $55/week plus a one-time $50 registration fee per family; the summer camp is $90/week plus a one-time $50 registration fee per family

Kidz XL began on June 20, 2005, and added after-school tutoring in August 2006, starting with 3 students. In 2007, La Viña received its first contract with The Children’s Trust of Miami-Dade County, which still funds Kidz XL. The program provides after-school assistance for around 100 students a day for 36 weeks out of the year and summer camps for up to 150 students a day for 8 to 9 weeks. Kidz XL was initially funded by a $25,000 grant to run six weeks of summer day camps for school-age children, and Miami-Dade County provided a free lunch. Volunteer youth from Kearney, Nebraska; Kenosha, Wisconsin; New York City; and a group from the FIU football team helped launch and serve the program.

Kidz XL is led by founder Rollo Casiple, who is also Pastor of True Vine Christian Church/La Viña del Señor and was inspired by a sense of calling and desire to serve the under-served and under-resourced Westchester/Olympia Heights communities. The program describes itself as more than an after-school and summer camp program, calling itself a catalyst for children to blossom into great men and women, an anchor of support for families, and a transforming influence in the Westchester/Olympia Heights communities of Miami. The Children’s Trust describes Kidz XL as an innovative after-school program that promotes academic excellence and provides homework help, literacy development, physical fitness, character-building activities, social skills development, and sports and physical fitness activities. Kidz XL states that it is fun, innovative, and incredibly positive, and that everyone involved, from directors to volunteer youth, serves as loving, caring, and committed mentors dedicated to the faith, future, and character of each student enrolled. The program reports having a paid staff of 12 directors and coaches, along with many volunteer youth and adults, and notes that Rollo has never taken his salary from Kidz XL. Families are instructed to download, print, and bring the Kidz XL Combined After-School and Summer Camp 2025–2026 Application in English or Spanish.
