Miami Lighthouse Learning Center for Children

Miami Lighthouse Learning Center for Children offers Miami Lighthouse Academy, Blind Babies Program, Bright Beacons, and Summer CAMP Programs. The Academy uses the HighScope Curriculum in a print and braille rich environment, and the Blind Babies Program includes weekly playgroups and Saturday parent braille courses. Bright Beacons gives school aged children access to core and expanded core curriculum, and Summer CAMP Programs integrate literacy, physical fitness, and social skills.

Programs

• Miami Lighthouse Academy — pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade
• Blind Babies Program — birth to age 5 · weekly playgroups; Saturday parent braille courses · Early intervention and parent education through a home visitation program for blind or visually impaired children.
• Bright Beacons — school aged children · Enables visually impaired school aged children to access high-quality core and expanded core curriculum.
• Summer CAMP Programs — children with visual impairments ages 1-4; children with visual impairments and their siblings in Kindergarten through 5th grade · seven weeks · Supports literacy, physical fitness, and social skills by integrating the expanded core curriculum and evidence-based literacy programs.

About the provider

Miami Lighthouse was founded in 1926. Miami Lighthouse Learning Center for Children is a Florida gold seal and nationally Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment (APPLE), and Miami Lighthouse has been continuously accredited by NAC since 1978 and by AER since 2017. The Miami Lighthouse Academy is offered in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Early Steps, and the Early Learning Coalition. Programs are partially funded by The Children's Trust.

Miami Lighthouse Academy is an inclusive program; for pre-kindergarten, students with and without vision impairment are enrolled. Learning in all classrooms is conducted by Florida-certified early childhood teachers, Florida-certified teachers of the visually impaired and teaching assistants. Families are supported through home visitation, parent education, parent braille courses, and support groups.
