About

Zoo Miami Summer Camp takes place within Zoo Miami’s lush, tropical, open-air exhibits, where campers can see more than 2,000 animals representing 375 different species. Campers may experience up close animal encounters and feedings, water play areas, and the Conservation Action Center indoor interactive exhibit where visitors can crawl through a python to learn about invasive species.

• Schedule: June 5–August 12, 2026, 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with free aftercare until 5:30 p.m.

Zoo Miami is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Zoo Miami is the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental U.S., and animals are grouped according to their geographic territories, with species that live together peacefully in the wild placed in exhibits together. Trees, foliage, and soil in the exhibits are matched as closely as possible to the native habitats of the animals, and the open-air design allows guests to view wildlife at a safe yet close range. The zoo’s history can be traced back to 1948, when it began as the Crandon Park Zoo on the island of Key Biscayne. Zoo Miami is involved in over 36 wildlife and environmental conservation projects on six continents and states its vision as “Uniting everyone with nature to protect and restore wildlife” and its mission as “To inspire people through engaging experiences to preserve nature in South Florida and across the globe.” Zoo Miami is a smoke-free park effective January 1, 2026, with smoking allowed in parking lots. The leadership team includes Director William Elgar, Assistant Zoo Director Philip Hillary, Chief of Animal Health Dr. Gwen Myers, Infrastructure and Construction Division Chief Darian A Fonticiella, Chief of Operations Diana Vega, and Chief of Zoo Administration Staci Otero.
