Mount Dora Center for the Arts was formally founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 1986, following the start of the Mount Dora Arts Festival in 1975 and the formation of the Mount Dora Cultural Council in 1984. The organization’s mission is to enrich lives through diverse and inclusive art education, exhibits, and events, and it states that art must be accessible to all regardless of financial status, race, color, ability, age, gender identity, ethnic origin, and political or religious beliefs. Mount Dora Center for the Arts provides scholarships through its Art Camp Outreach Program and creates opportunities for artists to reach underserved communities, and it is funded in part by United Arts of Central Florida, Lake County, the Florida Division of Arts and Culture, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The leadership team includes Executive Director Janet Gamache, Executive Assistant Keri Bourne, and Gallery Director Paul Morris, along with an Executive Board of Directors and Board of Directors. The Executive Board of Directors consists of President Cathy Hoechst, Vice President Paula NeJame Tucker, Treasurer Jonathan Brownfield, and Secretary Kate Ondrasik. The Board of Directors includes Tina Hartsfield, Brian Clemens, Pat Price, Jonathan Brownfield, Jack Andreano, Bill Lowery as Director Emeritus, and Gary Hopcraft as Director Emeritus.
