Founded in 2007, Suncoast Stables and Riding Academy is led by owner and trainer Krystle Lee, who received her B.S. in Equestrian Science from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. The barn’s mission states that it is a safe and supportive family-friendly environment for horseback riding and training, and that private 1:1 lessons teach riders to ride the right way, emphasizing the respect and responsibility needed to make a successful horse and rider team. The program specializes in American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Arabians, hackneys, and roadsters, and offers customized training programs for each horse and rider or driver, with horses trained multiple times per week and breeding of American Saddlebreds through natural mating and artificial insemination. Boarding includes daily turnout, stall cleaning, automatic watering, and multiple daily feeding times with a balanced diet, and the program does not offer trail riding.
Suncoast Stables and Riding Academy has been named FSHPP Barn of the Year in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Krystle has been a Past Reserve World Champion of the American Saddlebred Breed Ambassador, has been awarded Instructor of the Year by the Florida State High Point Program, and was named 2024 UPHA Chapter 16 Horse Person of the Year. She is an active member of the AMHA, ARIA, ASHA, CHA, UPHA, and USEF professional organizations, and riders at the barn are eligible for Florida State High Point Program awards through competition. Suncoast Stables was featured on ABC News on the “Good Morning Odessa” segment as a place to try in the Tampa, FL area.
Parent feedback includes comments that a child has been doing horsemanship training there for several years, enjoys training, competing, and learning about horse care, and now wants to make it a lifelong passion. Other parents state that their boarded horse receives what they consider the best of care and that the horse is healthy and happy, and that clients at Suncoast Stables support each other’s achievements while Krystle emphasizes proper care, respect, safety, and good horsemanship.
Proper riding attire is required, including long pants and closed toe hard-soled shoes, and ASTM F1163-15/SEI Certified helmets are available. A completed Client Application, Release Form, and Medical Form must be turned in to be on the property, and families are asked to arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time, with late arrivals not receiving extended time.
