About

North Wind Martial Arts Academy offers Karate, including Shito-ryu Karate and its Motobu-ha Shito Ryu branch, as well as kickboxing and Personal Taijitsu. Students practice kata, which is a series of movements that train the body bilaterally using patterns and complex movements, and bunkai, which is the extraction and application of fighting techniques from a given kata. The academy also runs a Summer Camp.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: White belt classes for kids ages 5–13 meet on Mondays and Thursdays at 5 p.m.; adults can attend a first class on Mondays 7–8 p.m. and Wednesdays 6–7 p.m.; phone calls are taken Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m.

North Wind Martial Arts Academy states that its mission is to provide traditional Karate for the modern world with a physical, mental, social, and emotional approach, and notes that it also has fun. The academy offers a first class free, and no pre-registration is required for that first class. It notes that Karate is for everyone and that for every question asked, staff will provide an answer. The program teaches that Shito-ryu is one of the four major Japanese Karate systems that originated in Okinawa and that Shito-Ryu today has the most comprehensive kata syllabus of any style in the world, and identifies its branch as Motobu-ha Shito Ryu, or “Motobu’s Shito Ryu.” North Wind Martial Arts Academy has been in operation at least since 2016 and has been featured on FOX 35.
