United Gymnastics Academy opened its doors in August 2017 under the leadership of founder Mike Kociolek. Mike has over 15 years of coaching experience. The academy states that it is a place for all ages to learn the sport of gymnastics and tumbling and that its staff is well trained. Its mission statement says that through gymnastics, children increase coordination, physical agility, self-confidence, listening skills, work ethic, and leadership, and learn to respect their teachers and classmates. The mission also states that the team is built on the theory that consistent, well-disciplined coaching can help develop young gymnasts into hardworking, self-motivated, team-oriented athletes, and that teamwork is viewed as the key to making individual athletes perform at their best.
United Gymnastics Academy notes that it offers award-winning instruction for all ages. The Oviedo location is currently coaching levels 6–9 of the J.O. program of the women’s USAG program and levels 2–9 of the women’s USAG program overall. The team consists of more than 30 gymnasts who are training for the 2022–2023 meet season. The program also offers Open Gym events that are open to both members and guests, and it lists adapted classes for all ages and abilities through its Special Needs Program.
Parent testimonials mention coaches by name and describe their experiences. One parent describes United Gymnastics Academy as “the best place for fun gymnastics for all ages” and says Coach Savannah is fun, funny, smart, and knowledgeable. Another parent states that her daughter loves going to UGA and says Coach Avis gives the kids skills and confidence to learn new skills and has helped her daughter work through fears on the uneven bars. A third parent notes that their daughter has been attending since age 3 and, at age 6, has learned many new skills and tricks, and that the program focuses on foundational skills in gymnastics and builds from there.
