Summer Art Camp takes place at Art Center Sarasota and is part of the center’s kid’s summer camp offerings. The program is connected to a wide range of art activities at the center, including workshops, classes, open studios, and several types of exhibitions such as juried, curated, and group exhibitions. Families attending Summer Art Camp can also engage with related events like Free Family Saturdays, the Beaux Arts Ball, and the iconcept event, which features a runway show where local artists create fashion from unconventional materials.

Art Center Sarasota operates as a contemporary art gallery with four galleries, including Gallery 3 and the Atrium (Gallery 4, formerly called the Patio Gallery), along with a classroom and a back kitchen and class area. The organization was first established as the Sarasota Art Association in 1926, incorporated as a not-for-profit in 1941, opened its original gallery building in 1949, enclosed the Atrium (Gallery 4) in 1961, and created the iconcept event in 2009. Its mission is to bring together creatives and the broader public to increase understanding of the human condition, support wellbeing, and build community connection through the universal language of art.
The leadership team connected with Summer Art Camp includes Chair Mary Davis Wallace, Vice Chair Brenda Griffiths, Secretary Michael Kinsey, Treasurer Cathy Wilson, Executive Director Katherine Ceaser, Youth Education Coordinator Holly Flaig, Exhibitions & Digital Media Coordinator Izzy Stark, Curator & Director of Exhibitions Christina Baril, Program Assistant Peg Shanley, Education Manager Peter Tondryk, Bookkeeper Kelly Jordan, and Donor Relations Coordinator Alecia Harper, along with Board Members Ellen Seidensticker and Barbara Banks. Staff credentials include advanced degrees in fields such as International Education Policy, Elementary Education, Psychology and Art Therapy, Ceramics, Marketing & Art/Art History, Applied Art History, and Museum Management.
Art Center Sarasota was the first visual arts organization in Sarasota and is celebrating its 100-year centennial season. It organizes community outreach and collaborative regional artist initiatives through the SartQ artist collective and engages the broader public through exhibitions, workshops, classes, events, and Free Family Saturdays, which require an RSVP.
