About

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Programs match each child with a mentor for one-to-one time that can include taking a walk in the park, going to a museum, or going to an event hosted by the local Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliate. Pairs may also spend time listening to music, hanging out and talking, doing homework, reading together, shooting hoops in the gym, or playing on the playground.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Some mentors meet with children on weekends, while others get together on weekday evenings.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Programs are part of an organization that is celebrating 120 years of impact. The stated mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The program operates in communities across the United States, in both urban and rural areas. Its mentoring options include community-based mentoring, school-based mentoring, and Operation Bigs, which connects children in military families with mentors. The organization also supports mentors, children, and families throughout the life of each match, and states that the safety and well-being of all participating children comes first. The National Youth Council gives young leaders a platform to influence programs, engage with partners, and inspire their peers.
