Aurora Day Camp offers a 6-week summer day camp, year-round programs, in-hospital recreational activities, and in-hospital play for children with cancer and their siblings. The program also includes Aurora on Wheels sessions and a virtual summer experience called SunriseVX, which is hosted by the Sunrise Association. These activities focus on fun, hope and healing, inclusivity and diversity, and are all completely free of charge.
• Ages: 3½–16 years old

• Price: all completely free of charge; $500 fills the Aurora on Wheels Trunk with toys and games; $200 one day at Aurora Day Camp; $50 ice cream for the summer for a child
Aurora Day Camp brings the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings in Greater Atlanta through an inclusive summer day camp, year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge. The program gives hope, strength, and joy to children with cancer and their siblings, and every dollar raised in Georgia supports families in Georgia. SunriseVX provides a fun and interactive virtual summer experience for children with cancer and their siblings, and Aurora Anytime Bags and Aurora on Wheels are offered at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Campers were enrolled from 18 counties in Georgia in 2024, with more than 20,000 hours of carefree summer (“Days of Camp”), and children are also served through year-round programs and in-hospital play.
Aurora Day Camp is a proud member of the Sunrise Association and the Sunrise Day Camps Association, Inc. Community involvement includes AuroraWALKS, the Dare to Dream Atlanta gala, Aurora Anytime Bags at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Aurora on Wheels at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and a Teen Board with 26 members. The leadership team includes Sami Tanenbaum, Director of Camp and Year-Round Programs; Xavier “Xay” Grullon, Camp & Year-Round Program Manager; Dekalah Price, Coordinator of Programs/Registrar; and Noah Vega, Assistant Coordinator of In-Hospital Programs.
Aurora Day Camp has been providing memories since 2017. In 2017 Aurora was created, in 2018 Aurora’s first summer took place and Aurora on Wheels launched at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, in 2019 AuroraWALKS launched for the first time and the Dare to Dream Atlanta gala welcomed guests, in 2020 Aurora Anytime Bags were launched for hospitalized children, and in 2023 Aurora reached 200 campers enrolled for the first time and the first Teen Board formed with 26 new members.
Parents and caregivers have shared that Aurora Day Camp offers a sense of safety and security and a loving place children can go for the entire summer. Families have said that at Aurora Day Camp, for the first time, they feel normal again and that there were other people there who understood their situation and the children could just be kids. One testimonial states that Aurora fills a niche for children and their families of children with cancer because there had never been a program that includes the needs of the sibling. Another testimonial notes that the program does not charge the family, keeps the children happy and entertained, and has been the biggest blessing to that family.
