Aurora Day Camp offers a 6-week summer day camp, year-round programs, in-hospital recreational activities, and in-hospital play for children with cancer and their siblings. The program also offers Aurora on Wheels sessions, Aurora Anytime Bags, and a virtual summer experience called SunriseVX.

Aurora Day Camp’s mission is to bring back siblings in Greater Atlanta through its inclusive summer day camp, year-round programs, and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge. The program brings the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings in Greater Atlanta and states that FUN IS MANDATORY, with a focus on hope and healing of heart, an emphasis on inclusivity and diversity, and an active effort to create inclusive communities that celebrate diversity and equity among children and staff. Aurora Day Camp is a proud member of the Sunrise Association and the Sunrise Day Camps Association, Inc., and every dollar raised in Georgia supports families in Georgia.
Aurora Day Camp has offered programs since 2017, including its first summer in 2018, the launch of Aurora on Wheels at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in 2018, the first AuroraWALKS event and Dare to Dream Atlanta gala in 2019, the launch of Aurora Anytime Bags for hospitalized children in 2020, reaching 200 campers enrolled for the first time in 2023, and forming its first Teen Board with 26 members in 2023. Leadership includes Kat Shreve, Executive Director; Sami Tanenbaum, Director of Camp and Year-Round Programs; Xavier “Xay” Grullon, Camp & Year-Round Program Manager; Dekalah Price, Coordinator of Programs/Registrar; and Noah Vega, Assistant Coordinator of In-Hospital Programs.
Parents have shared that Aurora Day Camp offers “a loving place you can go for the ENTIRE summer,” that “for the first time, we are normal again” and “they could just be kids,” that “Aurora fills a niche for children and their families of children with cancer because we’ve never had a program that includes the needs of the sibling,” and that “the fact that they don’t charge our family and that they keep my children so happy, so entertained and they are just so full of love” has been “the biggest blessing to our family.” The program also highlights community events and supports such as AuroraWALKS, the Dare to Dream Atlanta gala, Aurora on Wheels at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Aurora Anytime Bags at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and uses the hashtag #itsthebestcamp.
