The Music Class Inc. is an early childhood music education company that offers research-based education programs designed to unleash the musical potential of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The Music Class Atlanta offers both mommy and me style classes and a preschool music curriculum, and its most popular option is a mixed-age program for infants through 4-year-olds. The company states core values of quality and inclusivity, embracing families from all cultures and backgrounds and standing against racism in both its classrooms and its music. The program is family-owned and operated, with founder Rob Sayer still teaching his own classes every week in addition to running the company, and it is described as a small but mighty office team based in Atlanta.
The Music Class was founded by Rob Sayer in Atlanta, GA, in 1998 and has grown into an international program with over 1,000 locations and 75,000 students worldwide. The leadership team includes founder and director Rob Sayer, COO and director of TMC in China Raina Sayer, and Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology David Wetzel. Many Atlanta teachers can be heard on the award-winning recordings used in class, and these recordings feature Grammy-nominated musicians as well as Rob, Raina, and many TMC teachers, students, and alumni. The Music Class is based in Atlanta and works closely with center directors around the world.
Several teachers at The Music Class Atlanta have extensive training and experience in music and education. Berné Poliakoff has been a TMC teacher since 2000, majored in Voice at the College of Charleston, has been a professional musician her entire adult life, has performed solo and in numerous groups in styles including Folk, Jazz, Western Swing, Classic Country, and Rockabilly, and is a songwriter. Bowen Hoadley has been teaching music in the Atlanta area for over a decade, graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Music, and serves as Music Specialist at Sagamore Hills Elementary teaching General Music, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. David Wetzel, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, manages day-to-day operations of the corporate office, oversees all aspects of the Atlanta center, and works directly with international centers offering TMC programs. Doris Seiden holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Dance from NYU School of the Arts, is Director of Family Keyboard Classes, Inc., co-founded and choreographed for Calck Hook Dance Theatre, and teaches yoga, drama, and classical piano privately and in after-school programs throughout Atlanta. Heather Blank performed with the Women’s Glee Club and Noteworthy Women’s Ensemble while earning a BA in Telecommunications at UGA and worked for over 10 years in the television industry. Hope Earley majored in Early Childhood Education at UGA, has worked with children her entire life including leading a children's music program at her church, teaching in daycares, and nannying for 7 years, and has been involved in music from a young age through chorus, trumpet in band for 7 years, and marching mellophone in high school.
Parent reviews describe teachers as enthusiastic and engaging and mention participation in both music pup classes and keyboard classes. Reviews from Dunwoody, Smyrna, Suwanee, and Johns Creek locations describe families enrolling season after season, toddlers and babies recognizing and responding to songs at home, and entire families participating in classes. Several parents mention that their children sing the songs at home and use the provided music books and instruments. One review notes that The Music Class quickly shifted to virtual classes and open webinars during the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020.
