The Music Class Inc. is an early childhood music education company that offers research-based education programs designed to unleash the musical potential of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Its programs are research-based and designed to teach children in the ways they learn best, with core values of quality and inclusivity, embracing families from all cultures and backgrounds and standing against racism in both classrooms and music. The Music Class is a family-owned and operated business, and founder Rob Sayer still teaches his own classes every week in addition to running the company. The program is based in Atlanta and has grown into an international program with over 1,000 locations and 75,000 students worldwide, and TMC works closely with center directors around the world; when parents, preschool teachers, or center directors join, they become part of The Music Class family.
The Music Class was founded by Rob Sayer in Atlanta, GA, in 1998. The leadership team includes founder and director Rob Sayer, COO and director of The Music Class in China Raina Sayer, and Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology David Wetzel, who manages day-to-day operations of the corporate office, oversees all aspects of the Atlanta center, and works directly with international centers offering TMC programs around the world. Many Atlanta teachers are featured on the award-winning recordings families receive in class, and The Music Class offers award-winning music written and recorded in-house, with collections that feature Grammy-nominated musicians; the recordings include performances by Rob, Raina, and many TMC teachers, students, and alumni.
Several Atlanta instructors bring extensive training and experience. Berné Poliakoff has been a TMC teacher since 2000, majored in Voice at the College of Charleston, has been a professional musician her entire adult life, has performed solo and in numerous groups in styles including Folk, Jazz, Western Swing, Classic Country, and Rockabilly, and is an accomplished songwriter. Bowen Hoadley has been teaching music in the Atlanta area for over a decade, graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Music, and serves as a Music Specialist at Sagamore Hills Elementary teaching General Music, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus. David Wetzel is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Doris Seiden holds B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Dance from NYU School of the Arts, is Director of Family Keyboard Classes, Inc., co-founded and choreographed for Calck Hook Dance Theatre in New York and Paris, and teaches yoga, drama, and classical piano privately and in after-school programs throughout Atlanta; she also speaks French. Heather Blank is a native Atlantan who has been singing since elementary and high school, performed with the Women’s Glee Club and Noteworthy Women’s Ensemble while earning a BA in Telecommunications at the University of Georgia, and worked for over 10 years in the television industry. Hope Earley is a nanny who majored in Early Childhood Education at UGA, has worked with children her entire life including leading the children's music program at her church, teaching in daycares, and nannying for the past 7 years, and has been involved in music from a young age through chorus, trumpet in band for 7 years, marching mellophone in high school marching band, and musical theater through school.
Parents have shared detailed feedback about their experiences. One parent from Dunwoody, GA, described enjoying both music pup classes and keyboard classes, noting that teachers have been superb and very engaging for their children and that the program supports continued learning of music, language, memory, and social skills. Another parent from Smyrna, GA, said The Music Class was the first activity for their toddler, that they have enrolled every season for a year, and that their toddler loves attending and uses the music book and instruments at home; this parent also noted that the organization took many precautions for safety during COVID. A parent from Dunwoody, GA, shared that their 8‑month‑old son recognizes songs from class at home and responds to tonal patterns, and a parent from Suwanee, GA, reported attending for five years across different locations with multiple children and described the classes as fun, creative, and educational. Additional reviews mention enthusiastic teachers, multiple sessions taken with siblings, and long-term participation of nearly three years with the whole family, along with comments that class plans reflect a great deal of energy and music theory and that virtual classes and open webinars were offered during the COVID shutdown in 2020.
