Gwinnett Swim began in 2014 in a 1200 square foot warehouse facility in Buford, Georgia, and expanded its space over the next twelve months before opening an 8000 square foot facility on Lanier Islands Parkway in 2019. The program’s background includes hours of intensive in-water, one-on-one training, infant and child physiology, behavioral course studies, and water survival instruction, and it has trained thousands of infants and children in aquatic survival skills. Gwinnett Swim states that everyone should have the survival skills of swimming and that if just one life is saved from accidental drowning, their mission is complete.

Christy Williams created the swim program in 2012, is a mother of three, and has a degree in education. Gwinnett Swim describes its instructors as highly trained, passionate, certified, and respected in the northeast Georgia area, and AFGA instructors are trained to recognize and work through unique roadblocks for swimmers with special needs through the Swim Angelfish® methodology. The program offers a Special Olympics of Georgia (SOGA) swim team as part of its community involvement.
