About
Camp Evergreen offers overnight camp sessions that include daily worship, playing in Moccasin Creek, silly, wild evening games, and a waterfall hike. The camp runs overnight sessions ranging from 4 to 14 days and includes 18 wilderness-based daily activities along with more than 50 unique and silly choice time and “wild time” adventures offered throughout the summer. Camp Evergreen operates as an intentionally small, family-owned-and-operated, wilderness-centered Christian camp with an intentionally rustic, good, old-fashioned, unplugged camp experience, and provides 24-hour on-site medical care.
• Ages: 7–15 years old
• Schedule: Overnight camp sessions ranging from 4–14 days, with camp operations running 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily during summer camp and 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on specified weekdays from August through May
Since 1999, Camp Evergreen has operated as a family-founded-and-operated camp and notes 25 years of Camp Evergreen. The camp states that it is rooted in Christ, has Christ-centered values and a close-knit community, and that its staff truly cares for campers like family, intentionally planting seeds and encouraging kids to explore their faith, with smaller numbers to foster deeper relationships and a belief that kids from all backgrounds deserve to experience the joy of summer camp. The program is a member of the Christian Camp & Conference Association (CCCA) and has been a CCCA member since 2017.
Camp Evergreen describes extensive staff training that includes staff background checks and screening, abuse prevention and CPR certifications, Youth Protection Training, and a 4:1 camper-to-staff ratio, with staff hand-picked as mentors for campers and discipled in their Christian faith by camp leadership throughout the summer. The camp also notes comprehensive weather monitoring and an emphasis on hydration. Two full sessions each summer are dedicated to offering camp at no cost to the families of more than 180 economically disadvantaged children from Atlanta and the counties surrounding the camp, and 180+ campers are funded annually by scholarships.
Parent, camper, and staff testimonials describe positive experiences with daily worship, chapel, activities, friendships, and time in nature, including comments that Camp Evergreen is “a wonderful place,” “truly Christian and very old fashioned,” and “the highlight of both my daughters’ summer.” Testimonials also mention that campers have “the BEST time,” make new friends, enjoy the unplugged Christian environment, and that staff and counselors “know these campers by name, care for them, listen and invest in their lives.” Several long-time staff and former campers describe Camp Evergreen as having had a significant and lasting impact on their lives and memories.
