About
Forsyth Academy of Performing Arts (FAPA) offers singing, dancing, acting, playing games, making crafts, acting games, learning lines, choreography, blocking, dance, and singing classes. The program also includes non-musical play productions, musical theater classes and productions, and technical theater activities such as scenic design, running crew backstage for a production, prop building, and scene painting. For babies and toddlers, FAPA includes The Village, where each class explores music, movement, and sensory exercises.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
FAPA’s preschool and kindergarten curriculums are specially designed to include creativity, self expression, fun, and weekly activities such as singing, dancing, acting, playing games, and making crafts, while also building confidence and pre-reading and reading skills that students will need as they start school. FAPA’s environments for 1st and 2nd grades include acting classes or musicals, where acting games teach students to think on their feet and feel confident in front of their peers, and students in shows learn lines, choreography, and blocking. For 3rd–5th grades, FAPA describes engaging in the arts as essential and says it ignites creativity, enhances cognitive abilities, and deepens emotional intelligence, with options that include musicals, acting, dance or singing classes, and non-musical play productions that FAPA states sharpen critical thinking and problem-solving while building self-esteem and fostering well-rounded growth, and being a “theater kid” at this age is described as particularly special because of the confidence that will carry students through the transition to middle school. For 4th–6th grades, FAPA states that giving students the opportunity for self-expression through the arts encourages them to express themselves authentically and explore complex emotions, promoting emotional intelligence, and notes that students learn perseverance as they tackle a tricky piece of choreography or a meaningful scene, with all environments for these grades designed to nurture self-esteem during the transitional tween years and to uniquely empower tweens to excel academically and emotionally, providing a platform for self-discovery and growth as they navigate adolescence. The Village at FAPA is described as a uniquely developed environment providing enrichment and community for babies and toddlers as well as their caregivers, and each Village class is an exploration of music, movement, and sensory exercises designed to give children the opportunity to explore the arts while parents and caregivers build community.
Testimonials describe the program as developing “triple threats” with fantastic voices, smart acting, and wonderful dancing, and say that the fun and professionalism are palpable. Parents report that they “love everything about FAPA,” describe the leadership and staff as better than any other they have dealt with in years of after school activities, and share that children say everyone is nice and encouraging. Other parents say they feel they “lucked up” when they found FAPA, find the location convenient, and feel the instruction is superior. One family notes that FAPA is very focused on the kids and that their children love everything and look forward to going, calling it a highlight of their week. Parents also mention that they appreciate the people, the plays chosen, and that they see the program as reasonably priced, family friendly, and a place where they have no qualms about dropping their kids off. Several testimonials describe FAPA and its director as a big part of their lives, mention exposure to great talent from instructors and peers, and say they have truly enjoyed every minute of being involved. Parents report that their children love going to FAPA, feel welcome, and are excited to be part of the class, and they describe seeing confidence grow, calling what FAPA does significant, and saying that the skills their children have learned go beyond the stage.
