About
GENESIS Preparatory Academy offers academic tutoring, summer camp enrollment, and credit recovery programs. The program includes remedial, accelerated, and honors options, with personalized and customized academic programs that use individualized and differentiated instruction. Students work in smaller classroom sizes with a low teacher to student ratio of 1:6, using a curriculum adapted to their unique learning styles and based on a rigorous Common Core-based academic curriculum that includes college and career readiness skills. GENESIS Preparatory Academy also includes entrepreneurial opportunities, professional development opportunities, cultural diversity and socialization, a focus on creative expression and growth, supplemental materials and field trips, and student community service projects.
GENESIS Preparatory Academy was established in 2016. The founder, Mrs. Iris Blevins, is a graduate of Alabama State University with both a B.S. and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, and she has Advocacy Certification in Special Education and Business Development. The leadership team includes Arthur Blevins as Overseer and Iris Blevins as Founder and Director of Academics.
The stated mission of GENESIS Preparatory Academy is to change the way education is done through targeted, individualized, customized plans based on student data and overall community support. Its mission further states that it prepares students to excel as high-achieving students and leaders at all academic levels, college, and beyond, by providing a strong educational foundation for Lifelong Learning, Superior Academics, and Stellar Character so that all scholars demonstrate educational excellence daily. The program lists founding principles and core values that include Leadership, Character, Respect, Responsibility, and Excellence.
GENESIS Learning Services, which is associated with the program, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its educational programs, employment practices, or other services and activities. GENESIS Learning Services has community partners and student internships and states that it meets students where they are and supports future goals. It works with Fortune 500 companies and small businesses through customized partnership programs and offers student community service projects to enhance students’ sense of community and giving.
