About

Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Programs include activities and events connected to parks, trails, and community spaces. The program uses facilities such as Adams Park Recreation Center, the Community Center, Depot Park, United Bankshares Amphitheater at Depot Park, Swift-Cantrell Park, and local trails. Special events and offerings include the Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival and the First Friday Concert Series in downtown Kennesaw, as well as access to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, which is a Smithsonian affiliated museum.

The Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department states that its mission is to provide public parks, facilities, and recreation experiences that enrich the quality of life for area residents and visitors through dedicated staff, sound management, and community involvement. Community involvement includes volunteering, joining a class, coaching a team, and participating in events. One attendee of Toddler Tuesday described feeling like part of a family with a support system at the Kennesaw Recreation Center. A Senior Clubhouse attendee stated that the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Senior Clubhouse has enriched their life by giving them something to look forward to and put on the calendar. A volunteer reported that giving time to Kennesaw Parks & Recreation has been rewarding and that seeing the impact on the community makes every moment worth it. A festival attendee described the Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival as more than just barbecue, highlighting food, music, and memorable moments. An adult basketball participant shared that playing in a Kennesaw Parks & Recreation league is about friendships, competition, and a sense of community that keeps them returning each season. The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, associated with these programs, has been recognized as a 2025 recipient of the nation’s highest museum and library honor.
