About
ArtsKSU Summer Arts Programs include the KSU Summer Dance Intensive, theatre concentrations, music camps, and arts and design experiences. Students take modern, ballet, African, jazz, and tap dance classes, as well as improvisation and repertory classes. The program also offers Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Design and Technology concentrations, along with Jazz Band Camp, Concert Band Camp, Choir Camp, and Orchestra Camp.
• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong sessions with daily classes, rehearsals, and activities from 8:30 am to 9:15 pm
Participants in the KSU Summer Dance Intensive work with professional artists who are experienced professors and active in their fields. The theatre concentrations are separate tracks that come together for a performance showcase at the end of the week. The KSU Summer Dance Intensive culminates in a performance at the KSU Dance Theater showcasing the work developed throughout the intensive. The KSU Summer Arts & Design Intensive gives high school students and rising college freshmen experience with what being a university student studying art is like, and the music camps are designed for high school students who want to grow as performers and experience college-level music study.
Summer Intensive students are housed in suite-style housing in the Village Suites, with ADA-compliant rooms and private rooms available under special circumstances. Event and Venue Management personnel are on-site 24/7, and KSU PD and 911 are always available as needed. Cell phones are allowed but are expected to be off during all sessions, classes, and rehearsals, and students staying overnight are not allowed to bring a car onto campus.
Students are in classes, rehearsals, or other activities from 8:30 am to 9:15 pm each day, with lunch served at noon and dinner around 5:30 pm. Recommended packing includes personal items, toiletries, medications, bath towels, bed sheets or a sleeping bag for a twin extra-long bed, an alarm clock if needed, casual clothes for the week, athletic shoes, spending money for snacks and vending machines, and an umbrella in case of rain.
