About

Washington Middle School Clubs, Activities, and Athletics offers 30 different clubs, activities, and athletic options for students during the 2024–25 school year. In the 2024–25 school year, 464 Generals participated in athletics through this program.

Washington Middle School Clubs, Activities, and Athletics is part of a school community led by Principal Marchel Rogers, who has 15 years of experience in education, including work as a health and driver’s education teacher, football coach, dean of students, and assistant principal. The leadership team also includes Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning Julie Noguez, Assistant Principal of Student Services Lauren Lihosit, and Dean of Students Ashley Richardson. Julie Noguez holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Blackburn College and a Master of Arts in Literacy focused on bilingual and English as a Second Language learners. Lauren Lihosit holds a bachelor’s degree in middle level education from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from North Central College. Ashley Richardson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with teacher certification from Western Illinois University and a Master of Science in educational administration from Eastern Illinois University.

The program is part of a school whose mission statement is: “We are dedicated to providing a positive, student-centered learning atmosphere that aims to empower our students with skills for life!” Washington Middle School claimed the 3rd Al Miller Cup for overall success in all City of Lights tournaments in the 2024–25 school year. In the same school year, 50% of students at all grade levels had improved placement on their iReady, and 109 students made high honor roll while 243 students made honor roll. Washington Middle School uses the Raptor background screen system to check visitors against various state and national criminal registries, and volunteers may be fingerprinted at the District Office for Illinois State and FBI criminal records checks and cross-checks with various state and national law enforcement registries. Visitors and volunteers are issued badges or ID badges to indicate clearance to enter the building. Additionally, Assistant Principal of Teaching and Learning Julie Noguez received the district’s Striving for Educational Excellence Award in 2021.
