About
Fox Valley Golf Academy offers beginner-level introductions to golf along with instruction on the short game, irons and woods, putting, etiquette, rules, and competition. The program includes purposeful practice strategies, introducing ways to practice correctly, and fine-tuning a player’s game prior to tryouts or an upcoming tournament. Participants can take part in camps, clinics, leagues, and a rolling curriculum dedicated to youth golf that uses fun activities, repetition, and meaningful instruction, including specific options such as Birdies, Eagles, The Next Level program, and a Back-to-School Minicamp.

Fox Valley Golf Academy is led by Golf Academy Director Justin Wyeth, who is also Aurora University’s Director of Golf. Wyeth attended and played competitive golf at West Aurora High School and Aurora University, where he earned a B.A. in Physical Education/Teaching. He returned to Aurora University in 2010 as head coach of the women’s golf team and took on the same role for the men’s team in 2014, and under his direction the Spartans have collectively won 12 conference championships during the last nine years. Wyeth is a 12-time Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year, was named the NCAA Division III 2022 Region 6 Coach of the Year presented by Golf Pride Grips, and has coached eight NACC players of the year, three all-region players, two regional freshmen of the year, and one All-American, with the AU men’s team earning a program-best 14th place at the NCAA Championships in 2022. His experience also includes 10 years as assistant manager at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course in Bristol, where he managed outings and assisted with Chad Johansen’s Golf Academy, and he now returns to Orchard Valley Golf Course to develop, lead, and grow Fox Valley Golf Academy 25 years after his first summer job there.
Wyeth states that his focus is to provide a welcoming, high-energy culture to teach and promote the game of golf to the community’s youth, no matter their skill level or experience. Fox Valley Golf Academy programming is scholarship-eligible through the District’s Fox Valley Park Foundation for families who qualify. The program keeps instructor-to-student ratios low and includes Birdies as a beginner-level introduction to golf with an emphasis on making golf fun, Eagles as a beginner-level instruction-based introduction focusing on fun and competition, The Next Level program for players with past tournament or on-course experience or instruction, and a Back-to-School Minicamp intended for high school players. The stated goal is to build Fox Valley Golf Academy into a destination for kids interested in learning, growing, and thriving through fun activities, repetition, and meaningful instruction, beginning at age 6 with progressive instruction at every stage.
