About

DuPage Swimming Center Swim Programs offers group lessons, private lessons, parent/tot lessons, adult lessons, and swim team lessons, along with lap and open swim times. The program also hosts indoor pool parties for children’s birthdays.

• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Winter Session runs Jan. 5–Mar. 22, with hours Monday–Friday 9AM–8PM, Saturday 8AM–4PM, and Sunday 10:30AM–3PM

The program takes place in a state-of-the-art instructional swimming facility that includes a 9-foot-deep, 25-yard competition-length lap pool and a warm, shallow teaching pool. Lessons are offered for all ages and abilities, and the curriculum was developed by the owner, an Australian Olympic swimmer. The swim programs have taught over 1 million students, and there is a flexible 2-hour cancellation policy and no registration or enrollment fees. Indoor pool parties are available for children’s birthdays.

The DuPage Swimming Center staff is described as a group of experienced, fully trained individuals. The center was designed and is operated by Australian Olympic swimmer Ross Seymour, whose background includes membership on the Australian World Championships teams in 1973 and 1975, the Commonwealth Games team in 1974, and the Australian Olympic team in 1976, along with being a two-time NCAA Division I All-American in the 100m and 200m butterfly. After his competitive career, Ross Seymour held coaching and aquatics leadership roles at Florida State University, the University of Tennessee, George Williams College, and Lyons Township Swim Club. His wife, Mina Seymour, is an experienced swim coach and previously served as Aquatics Director for the Boy’s Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The leadership team includes Ross Seymour, Mina Seymour, Lauren Hodder as vice-president and manager of the DuPage Swimming Center, and Ashley Seymour as vice-president of service at Swimming Pool Management Systems (SPMS). The Seymour family’s swim instruction history includes the Seymour Swim School, which celebrated its 50th year of business in 2010, and traces back to 1960 when Kenneth Seymour founded the first indoor learn-to-swim center in Melbourne. In 1972, Ross Seymour came to the United States to attend Oklahoma State University on a swimming scholarship, and in 1983 he founded Swimming Pool Management Systems, Inc. (SPMS), Pool Guards, Inc., and the DuPage Swimming Center. The program states that it has been “Swimming Safe From the Start” in Aurora since 2003 and that since 2003 the staff has worked to develop confident, enthusiastic, and capable swimmers.

The stated mission of the program is based on the belief that swim lessons can save lives, with the aim of giving parents peace of mind that their child is safe in the water. The team’s goal is to teach every student how to be water safe by challenging each student to swim 400 yards without stopping, which the program states as the objective for students to obtain the skills needed to be safe and confident in the water. The center notes that it serves Naperville, Aurora, Plainfield, and surrounding areas.

One parent testimonial from Julie H. reports that her three-year-old daughter has been taking lessons there for three months and has made what she describes as amazing gains. She notes that the instructors are wonderful with her daughter, are always excited to see her, and make the lessons fun and engaging. She also reports that she has always found the pool and facilities to be clean and that the classroom for observation is great.
