The BIT Theater describes itself as equal parts stage, classroom, and hangout, with shows every weekend, classes for adults and kids, and community events. It features rotating improv troupes, guest stand-ups, and audience-inspired shows, and notes that most late shows are PG-13, with family-friendly matinees also hosted. The program states that it is an inclusive community for all levels and that its education builds confidence and creativity. Producers, teachers, and performers are described as working professionals and community builders, and private shows, workshops, and corporate team-building are available.

The Bit Theater was originally opened as The Comedy Shrine, was reimagined as The Bit Theater in 2021 by Michael and Kelsey Bradt, and leadership passed to Patrick Stinson in July 2024. Patrick Stinson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from Millikin University and decades of experience performing in plays, musicals, and improv across the country. The theater’s mission statement says it creates unforgettable, affordable nights of laughter while building a welcoming home for performers and audiences, and that it brings people together through the power of play and shared joy.

The Bit Theater describes itself as being in the heart of Aurora and aiming to be a cultural cornerstone in the community. It states that it strives to ensure its stages reflect the diversity of its community and that it welcomes feedback from the community on inclusivity efforts. The theater states that it is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all audience members, performers, and instructors, offers diversity and inclusion training to all performers, instructors, and staff, checks in on students’ safety prior to each workshop, and has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and harassment. It reserves at least one free spot in each class for students unable to afford the regular class fee, strives to reach out to under-represented populations, and provides trigger warnings for pre-programmed content that may be sensitive to some audience members.
