Beverly Pagoda Martial Arts Academy was founded under the instruction of Shihans Ken Kates Sr., Renshi and Ken Kates, II, Renshi, who serve as founders and instructors. The academy’s instructors and students are teachers and practitioners of the Pagoda Ryu Martial Arts System, which consists of Shorin Ryu Karate, TKD, Kenpo, Aikido, and JiuJitsu. The program focuses primarily on sparring, ground-fighting, self-defense, weapons, and forms, and regularly competes in Karate, Judo, JiuJitsu, and Stick-Fighting tournaments. The academy states that it offers an open martial arts environment in which quality and honorable instructors, as well as students, are welcome to gain and share knowledge.
