Instruction for kids includes an emphasis on relaxation and building water confidence before competitive strokes, lessons that include deep water skills for confidence in water of any depth, and teaching toddlers to swim on their own without floaties or noodles. The Chicago Blue Dolphins Swim Studio is described as a one-of-a-kind Swim Studio featuring 2 Endless Pools, underwater and ceiling-mounted mirrors for real-time visual feedback, 360-degree video recording and playback, and water temperature set to 90 degrees, with storage for equipment such as fins, metronomes (tempo trainers), and fist gloves. The studio is the primary teaching location for group classes and private lessons and is used for adult and child group classes and private lessons, and it offers real-time 360-degree visual feedback and the ability to fine-tune instruction using mirrors, underwater video, and subtle adjustments of water speed. The program uses targeted, individualized training programs for adults and uses industry-leading technique and physiological methods in classes and training programs.
Chicago Blue Dolphins Swim School’s core purpose is to help people learn and improve their lives through the sport of swimming. John Fitzpatrick is the Owner, Founder and Head Coach and started coaching U.S. Masters Swimming for adults in 2001 after using technical exercises from Terry Laughlin’s Total Immersion and Swimming Made Easy materials to address swimmer’s shoulder. Chicago Blue Dolphins built its Swim Studio in 2006, began swim classes for kids in 2009, opened the baby swim program in May 2010, and grew the kids swim program from a small percentage of the business in 2009 to about 60 percent of the business in 2016. Chicago Blue Dolphins’ coaches are described as outstanding, highly-trained, experienced, excellent, and patient, and are skilled in applying the school’s methods for beginners and triathletes and competitive swimmers. Chicago Blue Dolphins’ methods have been featured in The Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Tribune Magazine, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Athlete, Windy City Sports, The Chicago Reader, and US Masters Swimmer.
