Lil Sluggers is a youth baseball program designed to prepare boys and girls ages 2 through 8 for their journey into organized team play by improving and developing their social and physical skills both on and off the field. Basic baseball fundamentals such as throwing, fielding, hitting, catching and base running are the core of the curriculum, and classes and coach-pitch instructional leagues are structured to build confidence, reinforce team play, teach cooperation and foster a love for the game. The program’s philosophy is to have fun, build confidence, and learn baseball, in that order. The program offers Rookies for ages 2 and 3, Minor Leagues for ages 4 and 5, Major Leagues for ages 6 to 8, and Advanced Classes for players ages 6 to 8 who have completed several Lil Sluggers classes at the Rookie and Minor League levels. Saturday Lil League includes T-Ball for ages 4 and 5 and coach-pitch for ages 6 to 8, and is run like a real league with teams in full uniform. The program features an energetic pace of classes, small player-to-coach ratios, age-appropriate drills and equipment at each level, and a flexible structure that allows switching programs during the same session. It is never too late to join the current session, and the organization also offers classes, private lessons, and team training for ages 9 and up. The program notes that it will provide updates as it receives them from the Chicago Park District.
