About

YMCA Camp Programs include day camp, overnight camp, family camp, specialty camp, and teen adventure options where kids and teens can take part in activities such as music, sports, cooking, crafts, shooting a basketball, and swim lessons. The program also connects with other YMCA offerings such as child care, personal training, and team sports. Day camp at the Y is led by experienced staff and offers nearly all the benefits of overnight camp in rural, urban, and suburban settings, and Y family camps give families the chance to experience everything that Y camps offer together.

• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Schedule: Y overnight camp experiences can stretch from one weekend to an entire season.

Founded in London in 1844, the YMCA has grown into one of the largest organizations focused on strengthening communities in the U.S. and around the world, and has been a place where meaningful connections help build stronger communities for 175 years. The YMCA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA describes its core values as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and states that these values guide everything it does. The YMCA identifies itself as the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering young people, improving the health and well-being of people of all ages, and inspiring action in and across communities, and states that it strengthens communities by connecting people to their potential, purpose, and each other.

The YMCA notes that its day, overnight, and specialty camps give kids the chance to make new friends, learn new skills, and interact with nature as they engage in physical, social, and educational activities. It also offers camp programs designed for medical and mental health challenges or other special needs so kids of all abilities and circumstances can attend. The YMCA describes camp as a place where all are accepted and where kids can be their authentic selves, and states that when kids create crafts or shoot a basketball at camp, the skills learned foster resilience for life. At the Rancho Family YMCA’s day camp, YMCA staff meet kids and families where they are.

Leadership connected to YMCA Camp Programs includes Shawn Morrison, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy at the YMCA of Greater Richmond; Nat Corrall, Director of Child and Youth Development at the YMCA of San Diego County; Tim Joyce, a former camper and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Richmond from 2013–2020; and Mia Kelliher, camp director at the Rancho Family YMCA’s day camp. The YMCA states that it is made up of people of all ages and from all backgrounds working side by side to strengthen communities. Through community programs, local outreach, and global engagement, the YMCA reports that it provides support and inspires action in communities, and that across the globe, Ys respond to community needs with programs and services that support people to reach their full potential. The YMCA also collaborates with community leaders to bring healthy living within reach of all people and has partnered with the Walmart Foundation to help address food insecurity needs by helping provide food to children who need it most.
