About
Youth Programs offers youth classes and a French immersion preschool. All classes are conducted in French with an emphasis on active participation and communication, and are separated into seven distinct levels based on the CEFR scale. The program follows the Alliance Française French-American Educational Standards, and classes are available on-site, online, and in a hybrid format.
• Schedule: French classes are offered year-round across all levels and take place during an eight–week session, with additional four-week classes also offered.
• Price: Drop-in class rates: $55 per 2-hour class; $41.25 per 1.5-hour class; $27.50 per 1-hour class.
All teachers are native or bilingual French speakers and are certified to teach French as a second language. Make-up opportunities are offered for missed classes, and students may attend one make-up per class missed during the same session. Students’ pictures might be taken and used for marketing purposes at events and cultural programs. Since 1897, the Alliance Française de Chicago has been dedicated to promoting the study of the French language, fostering cultural exchange, and building connections between Americans and French-speaking communities. It was recently named Best Language Instruction in the Chicago Reader’s Best of Chicago and is Illinois’ only official French examination center. The organization also maintains a library with over 18,000 items, which is the largest private collection of Francophone media in the Midwest, and members receive discounts on French classes, free entry to most cultural events, and borrowing privileges at the library. The Alliance Française de Chicago is honored to partner with Villa Albertine and the Haitian American Museum of Chicago for an author talk event.
