Zoo Camps includes hands-on activities, lessons, animal experiences, special zoo tours, up-close animal observations, stories, crafts, Zoo exploration, interactive lessons, enrichment activities, and animal encounters. Each Zoo Camp curriculum is described as age appropriate and includes interactive learning experiences focused on the heroes of the animal kingdom and how people can protect them. Specific camps include “Animals and Me!” for younger children and “Rockin’ Relations” for early elementary ages.

• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Zoo Camp is held during 5 days of camp, with ages 4–5 and 6–7 attending partial-day sessions and ages 8–9 and 10–12 attending full-day sessions; “Animals and Me!” is a 5-day, 2-hour camp, and “Rockin’ Relations” is a half-day camp.
• Price: Ages 4–5 and 6–7 partial-day camps cost $120 for Zoo Members and $150 for Non-Members per 5-day session; ages 8–9 and 10–12 full-day camps cost $200 for Zoo Members and $250 for Non-Members per 5-day session; Zoo Members receive a 20% discount, and fees are non-refundable after 21 days from the start date of the camp, with a 10% cancellation fee for cancellations before 21 days.

“Animals and Me!” is a two-hour camp for children ages 4–5 years and one parent or caregiver per child, and it introduces simple ways to care for animals and protect their homes, including companion animals, backyard wildlife, and exotic animals, with adult participation described as important to develop nature-based interaction with the child. “Rockin’ Relations” for ages 6–7 explores what makes animals special and why protecting them matters, including how habitats provide food, water, and shelter, what happens when those habitats are threatened, and information about native wildlife and endangered species around the world, and it is described as empowering campers to become wildlife protectors. Children ages 4–5 years must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver for the duration of the camp.

Snacks are provided at each session except for 4–5-year-olds, and lunches are only needed for full-day sessions for ages 8–9 and 10–12. Each child is asked to bring a refillable water bottle, and water is provided. A Camp t-shirt is included with paid registration, and a shirt size must be provided. Zoo Camp is held rain or shine, in hot or cold weather, and children are expected to be prepared appropriately. Registration uses the Active registration platform to handle registration and payment, and scholarship assistance is available through the Mary Lou Ries Education Program Scholarship to cover a portion or all of the costs of Zoo Camp.

Niabi Zoo was founded in 1959 and states its mission as “Working today to assure a better tomorrow for all living things.” It serves as an education and conservation center that works with other programs on field conservation, coordinated breeding programs, and community education. Conservation Educators at Zoo Camps lead interactive learning experiences and encourage campers to become champions for wildlife and stewards of the Earth.
