About
Double J Riding Club Camps include a 45 minute entry level riding lesson along with horsemanship lessons where campers learn how to groom and tack a horse, learn about horse breeds and colors, and learn about horse and farm safety. Campers interact with and care for horses and farm animals through activities such as meeting animals on the farm, feeding snacks to animals, searching for eggs in the chicken coop, visiting sheep, visiting 50 year old tortoises, coaxing pigs out of Piggy Palace, and feeling the tip of a horse’s nose. Camps also include science experiments, art projects, horse crafts, games, scavenger hunts, farm trivia, bingo, field games, creating a photo board, making and feeding homemade horse cookies, finger painting a horse, giving a horse a bath, and learning parts of a horse while finger painting and bathing a horse. Some sessions feature gymkhana day with games on horseback such as keyhole, relay races, flag race, egg and spoon, hot potato, musical horses, and other horse games, as well as advanced horse lessons that cover different horse feedings, tack, first aid, clipping, and lunging.

• Schedule: Single Day Horse Camps and Week Long Horse Camps run in one-day, 4-day (Monday–Thursday), or 5-day (Monday–Friday) formats; Intermediate Horse Camps and Advance Horsemanship Horse Camp run as 5-day camps with 5-hour daily sessions; Friday Farm Tour lasts 45 minutes; Tiny Animal Adventures meets on Wednesdays.

Single Day Horse Camps for ages 5–13 are offered at $120 per day, with summer groups meeting either 9:00 am–2:00 pm or 10:30 am–3:00 pm, and spring, fall, and winter sessions running 10:00 am–3:00 pm. Week Long Horse Camps for ages 5–13 are available as a 4 Day Week (Monday–Thursday) or 5 Day Week (Monday–Friday), with summer Group A meeting 9:00 am–2:00 pm and Group B meeting 10:30 am–3:30 pm. Intermediate Horse Camps for ages 8–16 run Monday–Friday in the summer from 8:00 am–1:00 pm, and Advance Horsemanship Horse Camp runs Monday–Friday in the summer from 9:00 am–2:00 pm. Before and After Care is available for every camp from 8:00 am until camp start time and from camp end time until 5:00 pm, with accounts charged the day of based on sign-in and sign-out times.
Friday Farm Tour is open to ages 1 and up, runs 45 minutes, and is offered on Fridays at 12:15 pm, with participants advised to dress for the weather and strongly encouraged to wear waterproof shoes. Tiny Animal Adventures is a caregiver-and-tot class for ages 1–4 held on Wednesdays at 11:00 am and includes listening to a story, creating a craft, playing a game, and making food for animals. For Intermediate Horse Camps, campers bring their own snack, lunch, and plenty to drink, and for Advance Horsemanship Horse Camp, campers bring required riding gear, a snack, lunch, a refillable water bottle or electrolyte drink, muck boots or a change of shoes, and an optional change of clothes. For Before and After Care, drop-off and pick-up locations are marked by signs in front of the farmhouse.
Double J Riding Club Camps are part of a broader set of offerings that also include riding lessons, educational classes, early childhood classes, homeschool courses, community group field trips, birthday parties, craft workshops, scout badge opportunities, and Horsemanship 101 and Farmhand 101 courses. The program states that it is committed to offering safe, educational and enjoyable classes both on and off the horse. It describes itself as “Your Number One Riding Center and Urban Farm,” offers both horse camps and animal-focused programs, and notes that it does not provide trail rides or boarding.
The leadership team includes Cindy Johnson (Owner); Haley Johnson (Riding Instructor, Event Coordinator & IEA Coach); Kathy Jachymczyk (Riding Instructor & Show Team Coach); Ryan Cunningham (Education Program Director); Sara Parks (Riding Instructor); Lisa Ostrego (Early Childhood Instructor); Brett Graves (Animal Outreach Coordinator); Grace Seter (Farm House Instructor); and Natalie Connolly (Head of Horticulture). Staff credentials include degrees and experience in hospitality and tourism management, environmental science and ecology, environmental biology, biology, recreation management and environmental studies, and sustainable urban horticulture, agriculture, and environmental justice, as well as extensive riding, teaching, and informal environmental education experience. Instructor Kathy Jachymczyk holds a 2022 USDF bronze medal on OTTB Sock Monkey, a 2022 ECP level 1 certification, multiple USEA medals at beginning novice and novice levels, has qualified for and participated in the AEC every year since 2018 with noted placings and TIP awards, and has received Area 4 USEA awards including beginner novice horse of the year and area champion and novice reserve champion.
