About

Double J Riding Club Camps and Youth Programs include activities such as 45 minute entry level riding lessons, horsemanship lessons, and advanced horse lessons that cover different horse feedings, tack, first aid, clipping, and lunging. Children take part in learning about, interacting with, and caring for horses and farm animals through activities like farm tours, meeting animals on the farm, feeding snacks to animals, searching for eggs in the chicken coop, visiting tortoises, and coaxing pigs out of Piggy Palace. Camps and classes also feature science experiments, art projects, horse crafts, games, scavenger hunts, farm trivia, bingo, field games, gymkhana day with horseback games such as keyhole, relay races, flag race, egg and spoon, hot potato, and musical horses, as well as making and feeding homemade horse cookies, finger painting and bathing a horse while learning parts of a horse, learning how to groom and tack a horse, and learning about horse breeds and colors.

• Ages: 1–16 years old
• Schedule: Single Day Horse Camps run in spring, fall, and winter; week long horse camps, intermediate horse camps, and advance horsemanship horse camps run in summer in 4- or 5-day formats, with daily camp times generally between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; Friday Farm Tour is 45 minutes on Fridays; Tiny Animal Adventures meets Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m.; before and after care is available from 8:00 a.m. until camp start and from camp end until 5:00 p.m.
• Price: Single Day Horse Camp is $120 per day; 4-day week long horse camps are $495 per week and 5-day week long horse camps are $590 per week; Intermediate Horse Camp is $590 per 5-day week; Advance Horsemanship Horse Camp is $600 per 5-day week; before and after care is $7 per hour, charged based on sign in and sign out times.

The program also offers Tiny Animal Adventures caregiver and tot classes that include listening to a story, creating a craft, playing a game, and making food for animals, as well as a Friday Farm Tour open to ages 1 and up. Additional youth options include Animal Adventure, Horse Camps, Junior Half Day Camps, early childhood classes, homeschool courses, educational classes, Horsemanship 101 and Farmhand 101 courses, scout badge programs, community group field trips, birthday parties, craft workshops, and Farm School described as a unique learning pod. Before and after care provides low-key activities such as free play, board games, puzzles, art projects, movies, and more, and families are asked to follow signs in front of the farmhouse for drop off and pick up.

Campers in Intermediate Horse Camps are asked to bring their own snack, lunch, and plenty to drink, while Advance Horsemanship Horse Camp participants are asked to bring all required riding gear, a snack, lunch, a refillable water bottle or electrolyte drink, muck boots or a change of shoes, and an optional change of clothes. For the Friday Farm Tour, families are asked to dress for the weather, and waterproof shoes are strongly suggested.

Double J Riding Club states that it is committed to offering safe, educational and enjoyable classes both on and off the horse. The leadership team includes Cindy Johnson (Owner), Haley Johnson (Riding Instructor, Event Coordinator & IEA Coach), Kathy Jachymczyk (Riding Instructor & Show Team Coach), Ryan Cunningham (Education Program Director), Sara Parks (Riding Instructor), Lisa Ostrego (Early Childhood Instructor), Brett Graves (Animal Outreach Coordinator), Grace Seter (Farm House Instructor), and Natalie Connolly (Head of Horticulture). Staff credentials include backgrounds in hospitality and tourism management, extensive riding and coaching experience with USEA membership and USDF and USEA awards, environmental science and ecology, informal environmental education, recreation management and environmental studies, and formal training in horticulture and urban agriculture.

Kathy Jachymczyk’s listed credentials include a 2022 USDF bronze medal on OTTB Sock Monkey, 2022 ECP level 1 certification, multiple USEA medals at beginning novice and novice levels on Sock Monkey and Airborne Theory, participation in the American Eventing Championships with qualifications every year since 2018, and Area 4 USEA awards including 2018 beginner novice horse of the year, 2018 beginner novice Area 4 Champion, 2021 novice reserve champion, and a 2021 USEA blue ribbon award.

Parent and participant testimonials describe experiences that include Jr. Farmers Camp with weekly subject focuses, stories, crafts, science experiments, games, making homemade treats for animals, feeding and visiting animals on the farm, and ending each day with a horse riding lesson, as well as birthday parties with many animals and guides who were informative and worked with almost 20 children. Other testimonials mention patient barn staff who encouraged children to be hands on, a variety of skilled trainers and many horses for all levels of riding, and group outings where girls participated in every activity and some became interested in lessons.
