Take 2 Creative Camp

Take 2 Creative Camp is a summer program where students use technology to explore their creativity and be confident in voicing their opinions on multiple platforms. Participants work with computers, cameras, tablets, and different software programs to create a variety of content about themselves and the Elgin community, including videos, vlogs, blogs, podcasts, artwork, video games, clothing lines, books, coloring pages, tutorials, and fundraisers. They also embark on various field trips, document their adventures, and take part in activities such as writing scripts, editing video footage, directing and shooting videos, using a green screen, starring in videos, public speaking, meeting deadlines, working with peers and individually, volunteering, and using technology efficiently and effectively.

Over the past few years, students in Take 2 Creative Camp have created books that are available for purchase on Amazon, and their projects can be viewed on the YWCA Elgin YouTube channel and SoundCloud page. The program hosts a Red Carpet event at the end of each summer where students show off their masterpieces to friends, family, and the Elgin community. YWCA Elgin states that it is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all, and notes that for over 120 years its programs have evolved to include educational and employment classes for women and families, teen clubs, advocacy efforts, child care centers, and clothing for those in need. One testimonial explains that Take 2 Creative Camp can teach a young person how to make a project come to life using the latest technology, whether that project is a clothing line, video tutorials, advocacy for a cause, or another creative idea.
