About
The Boys & Girls Club of Freeport & Stephenson County offers 21st Century Community Learning Centers for elementary and middle school students, an Elementary Sports League with practices at the schools and games at the Club on Saturday mornings, and Extreme Summer Day Camp. The program also includes Junior Staff for teenage Club members, Teen Reach & Teen Outreach for teens, and activities in Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
Programs
- 21st Century Community Learning Centers — Elementary and middle school students
- Elementary Sports League — All grade schools in Freeport School District · Practices at the schools; games at the Club on Saturday mornings · Leagues and camps are organized for flag football, basketball, soccer and wrestling.
- Extreme Summer Day Camp — 4-8 weeks · Lunch is served. Youth enjoy swimming, field trips and other fun activities. Summer reading loss is addressed.
- Junior Staff — Teenage Club members · An apprentice program for teenage Club members to explore a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work.
- MLK Day — Celebrated at the Club on the annual holiday. Guest speakers and a variety of performers help commemorate Dr. King’s legacy.
- Teen Reach & Teen Outreach — Teens
- Character & Leadership Development
- Education & Career Development — Programs in this core area enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, set goals, explore careers, prepare for employment and embrace technology to achieve success.
- Health & Life Skills — Programs in this core area develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
- The Arts — Programs in this area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.
- Sports, Fitness & Recreation — Programs in this core area develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.

About the provider
The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Freeport and Stephenson County is to help youth of all backgrounds, with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances, develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders, irrespective of race, color, creed or national origin. MLK Day is celebrated at the Club on the annual holiday, with guest speakers and a variety of performers commemorating Dr. King’s legacy.
You must be 16 years or older to volunteer. Volunteers working with youth at the Club must complete a Boys & Girls Clubs Volunteer application and undergo a background check at the Club’s expense.
