Traditional Summer Camp

About
Traditional Summer Camp includes outdoor games, sports, crafts, songs, enrichment activities, swimming, outings to local parks, a field trip, Fun Fridays, board games, group games, reading, storytelling, drawing, announcements, contests and challenges, arts and crafts, hikes, camp clubs, journals, STEM projects, skits, riddles, weekly service projects, and outdoor water activities. Campers take part in both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the day, including organized group times and activity blocks.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: June 2–August 22, Monday–Friday; full-day camp 8 a.m.–4 p.m., with an extended care option 7 a.m.–6 p.m.; all campers arrive by 8:45 a.m.
Traditional full-day camps are age-specific, with different groups for children entering Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, fourth and fifth grades, and sixth through eighth grades. Kinder Ridge is for children entering Kindergarten in fall 2025, Camp Explorers is for children entering first grade, Wilderness Camp is for children entering second grade, Timber Ridge is for fourth and fifth graders, and Camp Voyagers is for incoming sixth to eighth graders and frequently goes to local forest preserves. Each week ends with Fun Fridays, and throughout the camp week, Voyagers participate in weekly service projects.
Counselors complete trainings in CPR, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, bullying, abuse prevention, pool safety, emergency procedures, customer service, and implementation of age-appropriate games and activities. The summer camp leadership team includes Raquel Despe for Kindergarten at B.R. Ryall YMCA, Cindy Goss for grades 1–5 at Ben Franklin Elementary, Jim Powers for grades 1–5 and specialty camps at Abe Lincoln and B.R. Ryall YMCA, and Dan Chambers for grades 6–8 at B.R. Ryall YMCA.
