Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Summer Camps include a variety of activities such as athletic oriented game play, group tag and camp games, dodgeball oriented games, sports, board games, bingo, and other games. Campers take part in art projects, arts and crafts, woodworking, ceramics, painting, drawing, theatre, dance, creative movement and music, story time, nature and science activities, nature oriented activities, water play, and outdoor activities. Some camps include weekly trips to the beach, multiple field trips, mapping their adventures, exploring fun locations, and daily bike travel along the Des Plaines River Trail Path and the North Shore Bike Path.

All Stars & Beyond is an athletic oriented camp that features a wide variety of camp options and activities, including original camp game favorites, and campers have the flexibility to choose the activities they engage in. All Stars & Beyond takes daily trips to the Lake Forest High School Pool or Forest Park Beach and takes weekly field trips on Wednesdays to attractions such as Green Meadows Farm, America's Action Territory of Kenosha, WI, and various water parks in the area. Everett Explorers camp is for ages 4–6 and maintains a low counselor-child ratio. Summer Discovery is for ages 3–4, has a low-key, noncompetitive, yet structured atmosphere geared toward the needs, interests, and skills of the young child, and maintains a low counselor-child ratio. McCormick Day Camp is the Lake Forest Recreation Department's oldest day camp, with campers embarking on field trips every Friday to local water parks and destinations such as Lincoln Park Zoo and Green Meadows Farm, and spending their afternoons swimming at Forest Beach and/or the LFHS Pool. TWIGS Art Camp is for completed grades 1–6, where campers are immersed in creativity, use a state-of-the-art ceramics facility at Stirling Hall, and end the summer with a TWIGS Art Showcase & Performance for family and friends. Teen Bike Camp is for ages 11–15, and participants travel on their bikes every day along the Des Plaines River Trail Path and the North Shore Bike Path; all campers in Teen Bike Camp must have bikes, helmets, locks, and backpacks, and participants should bring a snack, sack lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, and spending money to purchase items if desired. Awesome August is for ages 4–6, is designed to extend camp summer in August, and includes water play and outdoor activities each day. Resident registration opens March 4 at 8:30 am.
