Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago offers an 8-week Summer Day Camp, along with Virtual Camp, year-round fun-days, and in-hospital recreational activities. The program also includes Sunrise on Wheels and the Wheels Up! program, where travel, arts and games come together. Fun is mandatory at Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago.

• Price: All programs are offered free of charge.
Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago is a program of JCC Chicago and a proud member of the Sunrise Association. It is supervised by a dedicated and trained staff who are keenly aware of the unique needs of children with cancer and their siblings. Free transportation is provided on staffed, air-conditioned buses. Siblings are welcome, and the program actively seeks to create inclusive communities that celebrate diversity and equity among all children and staff.
Sunrise Day Camp – Chicago is a partnership between JCC Chicago and Sunrise Association and serves the entire Chicagoland area. Since 2022, they have brought joy to over 500 kids with cancer and their siblings across Chicagoland. Year-round and in-hospital programs, including Sunrise on Wheels, bring the magic and fun of camp into participating hospitals, and Wheels Up! is an exciting program for children and teens where travel, arts and games come together.
Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago, a program of JCC Chicago, brings the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago is a proud member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide through summer day camps, year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge.
Sunrise Association Day Camps opened the first Sunrise Day Camp in 2006 on Long Island as the world’s first full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings, and Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago held its first summer in 2023. The leadership team includes Karen Abrams, Camp Director; Leslee Cohen-Lavin, Manager of Operations/Registrar; and Allie Huey, Gift Officer. One parent shared, “The best thing about camp this summer was the abundance of joy and anticipation that all of my children experienced every day!”
