About

Lincolnshire Sports Association Recreational Basketball includes basketball skills clinics, basketball drills, skills evaluations, and basketball games. Players work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive fundamentals as part of the program. The kindergarten program is an 8-week program run by Play Hard Hoops, and the recreational and competitive programs each feature one practice per week for 13 weeks during the basketball season from early December through March.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Season runs from early December through March with one weeknight practice and one weekend game; recreational and competitive programs each include one practice per week for 13 weeks, and the kindergarten program runs for 8 weeks

The recreational program’s first four Saturdays of the season (January 10, 17, 24, 31) are 1-hour basketball skills clinics, and the final six Saturdays (February 7, 14, 21, 28, March 7, 14) each feature one 1-hour game. The competitive program includes 10 one-hour games held on Saturdays for 10 weeks from January 10 through March 14. Practices are held on weeknights between 7:00–9:00 PM in District 103 gyms, on every weeknight including Fridays if necessary, with a winter break from December 20 to January 5 when practices do not meet. Key dates include early bird registration opening on September 10, early bird registration ending on October 10, registration closing on November 1, player skills evaluations on November 4, 5, and 6, practices beginning December 1, practices resuming January 6, the first game weekend and start of Play Hard Hoops clinics on January 10, and the last game weekend on March 14.

For the 2025–2026 season, two types of basketball programming are offered for 1st–3rd grade: recreational and competitive, and players in these grades must select one of these options when registering. Fourth grade and older players do not select recreational or competitive options. The program features separate girls and boys programs and is not co-ed. Teams are formed based on an even balance of skill levels in the recreational and competitive programs, and players are separated by age group, with age groups or grades combined only if there are insufficient registrants. In the event of insufficient registrants at any age level for either recreational or competitive programs, registrants are combined and run through one of the programs only. As part of registration, parents can indicate which days their child can and cannot practice to help with team placement. Space for house practices is limited, and District 103 gyms are only available after 7:00 PM on weeknights, which results in later practice times for all ages including 1st and 2nd graders.

Lincolnshire Sports Association notes growth over the past 40 years as a program and a community. The LSA basketball program states that it is dedicated to developing all aspects of the player’s game and is designed to teach and develop fundamental basketball skills in a fun and instructional environment, with all children given the opportunity to play and learn and an emphasis on sportsmanship. Lincolnshire Sports Association states that it prides itself on “Building Character, Community and Skills through Sports.” The kindergarten and initial skills clinics are run by Play Hard Hoops, and the girls basketball skills clinic is run by Regan Carmichael, varsity basketball coach for the Stevenson girls basketball program. LSA basketball is an all-volunteer organization and relies on volunteers as Commissioners, Head Coaches, and Assistant Coaches, and if there are not enough parent-volunteers to coach teams, high school volunteers may coach.

Lincolnshire Sports Association provides house league programs to all families in the District 103 school district, which covers all of Lincolnshire and Prairie View and parts of Lake Forest, Riverwoods, Buffalo Grove, and Vernon Hills communities, and also provides Travel programs that are open to all communities. Play Hard Hoops partners with LSA to bring instruction to the LSA Winter League program, and the Stevenson high school girls basketball program offers a skills clinic for girls in 2nd through 5th grade. The Lincolnshire Bolts have partnered with the Stevenson Patriettes to offer a 4-day dance clinic, and LSA and Chicago Rush North work together to provide a Recreational Soccer program.
