About

MID-TAC Junior Tennis Programs focuses on tennis. The program is part of a broader set of MID-TAC tennis activities that include junior-specific offerings.

MID-TAC is celebrating its 102nd year (1923–2025). MID-TAC is the Midwest Section of the American Tennis Association, which was founded in 1916. MID-TAC is a 501(c)3 organization. MID-TAC hosts MID-TAC Junior Tennis Camp and conducts MID-TAC Adults Championship, Juniors Championship, and Novice Championship tournaments. MID-TAC offers adult, juniors, and novice registration for its events and hosts social events associated with its 2025 activities. MID-TAC provides tennis coaching content under the title “Tennis-By-Sight” and maintains a photo gallery and video gallery of its events. MID-TAC has ties to local community tennis in ten Midwestern states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and beyond. MID-TAC offers year-round opportunities to support the organization by making online donations or becoming a sponsor and conducts a sponsorship drive called MID-TAC 2024 Sponsorship Drive. Its stated mission is to continue its work to grow the game of tennis.

Parents and players have shared various memories connected to MID-TAC. One parent recalled “Daryl Whitley (junior tennis phenom) started playing and I became one of his coaches.” Another remembered “Coming to MID-TAC knowing it was a big tournament and being able to beat James Fields of Kansas City in the finals.” Others described long matches, playing friends, and competing in different divisions, including the Open Division in the late 1960s. A tournament director described a first day on the job when it rained every day at four to five different sites and remembered giving winners their trophies at the last match.
