About

The MYSA Travel Basketball Program includes travel basketball with regular basketball practices, basketball games, local basketball tournaments, and at least one overnight basketball tournament. Each team will participate in at least 3 local tournaments and one overnight tournament, and all teams could play more games depending on tournament success. For 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade levels, teams play 25–40 games depending on tournament success, while 6th grade boys and 6th grade girls game schedules are listed as TBD for before and after the school season, respectively.

• Ages: 8–12 years old
• Schedule: Registrations for the 2025–2026 season begin July 7; tryouts are August 16 and 17; practices typically start in mid-September with two weekday evening practices, and once games start in November, teams continue with two weekday evening practices and games through the end of February; practice length is between 1½ to 2 hours all season
• Price: There is no cost to try out, but if a child is selected to a team the player fee must be paid prior to the first practice.

Registration is available for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade boys and girls, with A and B level teams where numbers allow, and age levels may be combined when needed, such as 3rd/4th grade. Evaluation at tryouts is done by evaluators from Metamora and Germantown Hills, and teams are selected and announced within two weeks of evaluations. The majority of games are within 45 minutes of the community, with 1–2 tournaments possibly as far as 90 minutes away, and practices are considered mandatory after basketball games begin. If a child loves basketball, is looking for a more competitive opportunity than In-House, or is wanting more gym time than In-House, the MYSA Travel Basketball Program is described as a great option.

The Metamora Youth Sports Association (MYSA) is an independent, volunteer organization that provides recreational activities for youth and contributes substantially by providing programs that benefit the community as a whole. Its mission includes organized sports for all who sign up, sports that are to be fun, and programs that allow children to improve their skills regardless of ability, with sports performed at locations designed to support these goals. Sport programs are developed to promote teamwork and fellowship in a wholesome setting, and MYSA works to raise funds to create or improve facilities and equipment needed to support these goals. MYSA also offers basketball, baseball, and softball each year and will not discriminate according to race, religion, physical or sexual orientation.

MYSA is a local organization dedicated to promoting youth sports in Metamora and offers activities to children from the Metamora Grade School District, who are automatically eligible to participate in MYSA-sponsored activities. Children from surrounding communities without an organization providing the activity are also eligible, and children from areas that do have such an organization are handled on a case-by-case basis. MYSA Board meetings are held once per month throughout the year, usually on Sundays at 7:00 pm, and typically take place at The Flame Restaurant in Metamora. If someone is interested in coaching or assisting in the Travel Basketball Program, they are asked to indicate this on the registration form, and as registration winds down, the Travel Basketball Director(s) contact interested coaching candidates.
